”SÅDAN FAR, SÅDAN SON”. En undersökning om mäns attityder till barnomsorg i EU28 samt inom olika välfärdsregimer i Europa
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study men´s attitudes towards childcare in different ages in EU as well as in Esping-Andersen's different welfare state models. The aim of this essay is to study if men´s attitudes towards childcare depends on their age in EU. The study also compares the welfare regimes to one and other and investigate if there are converging attitudes in the EU.
Previous research has focused on studying family policy’s in EU with theory’s created from Esping-Andersen´s welfare model. At the same time as researcher uses the welfare model other researcher debate about the existent of convergence between the member states of EU. Therefore, my argument is that Esping-Andersen´s model is too old to be used in science today.
This study investigates men´s attitudes in EU with focus on their age, education and worklife as independent variables and their attitudes as dependent variables. I use the method multiple regression and data from ISSP. The study also has a second step where I investigate if there are differences across the welfare models in men´s attitudes towards childcare. Or if there are some differences in the welfares regimes that can support the argument of convergence in EU.
The results in this survey show that there are differences in men´s age and their attitudes towards childcare both in EU and Esping-Andersen´s welfare state model. The connection between the variable birth and men´s attitude is small but significant.
