DEN EUROPEISKA IDENTITETEN - EU:s argument och implementering av den Europeiska identiteten
Abstract
It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore how culture affects the collective identity and
what kind of identity the EU wants to achieve. The purpose of the thesis is to see how EU's
agreements between the member states are used as guidelines for the cooperation and what
goals should be achieved, in order to then analyze how these are implemented and
accomplished. The aim is to examine how EU combines national cultures with the common
identity and what kind of identity (civil or cultural) the EU aims to achieve in its arguments
that appear in treaties but also in the Creative Europe program. The essay analyzes the
Creative Europe project as well as the Treaty of Rome, the Treaty of Maastricht and the
Treaty of Lisbon based on an argumentation analysis. This study contributes to understanding
what EU wants to achieve with the Creative Europe program and the Treaties, which is the
civil identity. The awards and remarks from Creative Europe encourage and contribute to the
common EU identity.
