Several studies about corruption show that gender has a spectrum of its own regarding the subject. Amongst several corruption forms that are based on gender, a specific one is the combination of sexual exploitation and corruption, also defined as sextortion. The costs of the issue are severe for individuals and societies. However established data and research on sextortion is scarce. In order to prevent sextortion from occurring and targeting particularly marginalized groups we need to understand the mechanisms that enable sexual exploitation in corrupt contexts. Previous research shows a negative correlation between a higher educational level and the risk of being exposed to corrupt behaviour and sexual violence. Meanwhile, several studies show a positive correlation between distinguishing corruption and a higher level of education. The following essay examines through statistical analysis how socioeconomic factors, educational level to be precise, affects individuals perceived as well as their experienced level of sextortion in Latin America. The thesis provides an interesting finding: An individual’s educational level has a great impact on both their experienced and perceived sextortion. Hence, those with higher education are more likely to state that it occurs. Likewise, they are more exposed to sextortion than those with a lower educational level.sv
