Klassificering för svensk fårull En studie i förutsättningar om utvecklingen av ett svenskt klassificeringssystem
The classification of Swedish sheep wool
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the development of a Swedish classification system for sheep wool. This is achieved via examinations of both the history of the Swedish wool history, and of previous systems of classification. Two perspectives are used in this thesis. The first is an international perspective and compares the Swedish wool industry to those of Australia, Great Britain and Norway. The second one is a sustainability perspective to show how the wool industry has affected landscapes and the environment.
The thesis is based on a survey of relevant literature and a poll that was sent to Swedish wool buyers.
The result of the thesis shows that the difference between Sweden and Australia, Britain and Norway are the economic benefit given from the government to sheep farmers for their wool production. The polls result shows that there are several different unofficial classification systems in Sweden that utilize the same categories for grading wool.
