| dc.description.abstract | Aims and objectives:
A hospital is a place where, stated in Swedish law, everyone has the right to high quality
equal care. Östra Hospital is located in Gothenburg and hosts, besides ordinary care facilities,
multiple treatments for people with addiction or mental illness. Accordingly, there is a
potential risk of narcotics being present at the hospital. If narcotics exist at the hospital, what
consequences does it create for the hospital? To whom, where and when is narcotics at the
hospital potentially problematic? These are questions that will be considered throughout this
report.
This report is an assignment written for the security department at Sahlgrenska University
Hospital, yet at the same time a master thesis. The aim of the report is to increase the
knowledge of how and why narcotics are present at Östra Hospital, and, if necessary, propose
potential measures.
Method and data:
The empirical material consists of qualitative interviews with facility representatives,
uniformed personnel and personnel from local businesses in connection to Östra Hospital.
The empirical data was analyzed using a thematic analysis, and theories addressing place
management and cooperation were applied. The study has been conducted in Gothenburg
between January and May 2020.
Results:
The results are based on the experience of the respondents, and shows that due to profession,
their standpoint regarding narcotics at the hospital varies. The overall picture, however, is
that narcotics have an unwished impact on Östra Hospital and the hospital area. Mostly, the
situation regarding narcotics is viewed as problematic during certain hot times, and certain
places within the hospital area are pinpointed as hot spots. The results indicate a need of
measures, and accordingly such are suggested after a discussion regarding place
management, cooperation and hospital security. | sv |
