dc.description.abstract | During the last century, increasing attention has been put on the importance to recycle. Several studies have investigated underlying factors that seems to correlate with this type of proenvironmental behavior. Therefore, this study takes off from previous research on influential factors on recycling behavior, and then develops that knowledge by implementing it in a different context than what has been done before. Characteristics of our sample are investigated and tested for a relationship with recycling in Gothenburg and surrounding municipalities. Panel data over the time period 2012-2018 is gathered on the individuals by looking at three demographic variables; education level, average income and age range. Through regression analyses, the result states that education level is the only variable that significantly augments recycling, whereas average income, age range fails to show significant impact. The study also aims to explain recycling behavior furthermore with the help of economic and psychological theory such as neoclassical theory, behavioral economics and the environmental Kuznets curve. Our results can contribute to the understanding of recycling behavior which is of great importance for public policy makers and marketers. However, there are several major limitations to the study. The size of the dataset was probably the reason to the nonexistent significance among variables, and results are only based on single-variable assessments which fails to consider deeper interactions concerning environmental behavior. | sv |
