OSS ZINESEMELLAN En fallstudie av konstzinet hos Fredrik Åkum

Abstract
This thesis is a case study of the art zines of contemporary Swedish artist Fredrik Åkum. Examining art zines as platform, art zines as medium and the democratisation of art through the art zine. The questions of how art is practiced through art zines, how the art zine constitutes a distinct medium and how art is made accessible through the art zine are discussed with theoretical basis in the concepts of alternative space, heterotopia and theoretical object. Concepts of participatory culture are applied in order to examine how the art zine enables participation in art. The empirical material of the study consists of an interview with the artist Fredrik Åkum, a selection of eight of Åkum’s art zines, as well as participant observation from a fanzine workshop led by Åkum.
