| dc.description | This study aimed to investigate children’s and parents’ perceptions of pictorial support in connection to hospital visits. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four children, aged 6–11 years, and six parents from a total of four families. Two of the children had autism. Data was transcribed and analyzed thematically. The results showed that pictorial support facilitated understanding of the course of events and reduced anxiety in both children with and without autism, and parents. The children’s participation also increased. Some children expressed wishes for pictures that were considered missing in the pictorial support. It also apppeared that some pictures were difficult to understand. The results of the present study indicate that there is a need for individualized care and that hospital staff should take children's opinions and needs into consideration regarding pictorial support. However, the findings of this study, involving interviews with four families, are not generalisable and thus further studies, involving larger groups, are needed. | sv |
| dc.description.abstract | Syftet med föreliggande studie var att undersöka hur ett antal barn och deras föräldrar uppfattade att få tillgång till bildstöd i samband med sjukhusbesök. Halvstrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med fyra barn i åldrarna 6–11 år och sex föräldrar, från totalt fyra familjer. Två av barnen hade autism. Data transkriberades och analyserades tematiskt. Resultaten visade att bildstöd underlättade förståelse för händelseförloppet och minskade känslor av oro hos både barn med och utan autism och föräldrar, samt att det ökade barnens delaktighet. Några barn uttryckte önskemål om bilder som de ansåg saknades i bildstöden. Det framgick också att en del bilder var svåra att förstå. Studiens resultat pekar mot att det finns ett behov av att vårdpersonal arbetar individualiserat och att de lyssnar på barns åsikter och behov gällande bildstöd. Fynden i denna intervjustudie med fyra familjer är dock inte generaliserbara och det behövs därmed vidare studier som involverar större grupper. | sv |
