The aim of this paper is to examine the engaging and motivational factors of television series among students in an upper secondary school in Western Sweden who state they enjoy this form of multimedia in their leisure time. Moreover, this study aims to investigate the students’ attitudes towards a possible implementation of television series as a pedagogical resource in the classroom. A qualitative method is chosen and 16 students from the first to the third year of the Social Science program in the upper secondary school participates. Semi-structured interviews are conducted, and a thematic method is used to analyse the transcriptions. The results from the interviews generates four themes: relaxation, knowledge, long-lasting relation to the characters and, a sense of community. The theoretical framework that is applied are divided into two dimensions with four categories: experienced-based reading versus instrumental reading and, personal reading versus non-personal reading. This study found that nine students have positive arguments towards the possibility of the implementation of television series as a pedagogical resource in the classroom, and the same number of students argues for the opposite opinion.sv
