The thesis investigates a city street, Borganäsvägen in the city of Borlänge Sweden and how traces, as palimpsest, memories and stories in and of the urban landscape can be a part of building the cultural heritage of the street. The urban landscape is researched with the idea of palimpsest as a mental tool to find traces left behind from the past that can tell stories of the history of the street and possibly also affects the use of and look on this landscape today. The written history of the street is investigated to se what has previously been told of history and memories regarding this urban room. The written history seem to originate from the same few sources and tell a correct but narrow and fixed story of the city and the street. The question is asked if there could be different stories found about this street that would create an alternative narrative and help redefine the cultural heritage of this urban landscape. A local facebook page is used to find personal stories and memories of Borganäsvägen. These personal stories are, as discovered, not a part of the usual narrative of Borganäsvägen and opens up new possibilities of interpretation. The european landscape convention (ELC) is ratified by the swedish government and thus the formal local planning documents concerning the street are investigated to see if the ELC is used as mentioned as a tool for defining the landscape from the viewpoint of its inhabitants. The conclusion shows that there are possibilities for alternative stories through different perspectives, as the use of social media, the idea of a more human-centered built environment from Wells & Stiefel (2018) and the convention text of ELC opens up new possibilities for defining our landscapes and the cultural heritage they create.sv
