This statistical study explores if privatization is correlated with corruption. Previous research has shown different conclusions and results. Some research has concluded that high levels of privatization is correlated with high levels of corruption. At the same time, other research has shown the opposite, that high levels of privatization are correlated with low levels of corruption. This study aims to build onto the already existing literature, and narrows down the scope of analysis to 27 former communist countries. This study aims to answer the hypothesis “High levels of privatization are correlated with low levels of perceived corruption”, using a quantitative method. Multiple regression analyses are conducted, with data from Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, and privatization data from EBRD’s Transition Indicators. Furthermore, the correlation between privatization and corruption is analyzed further by adding control variables to the regression analyses. This study finds no correlation between privatization and corruption. Therefor, the study also finds no support for the hypothesis previously stated. In order for future research to attain more reliable results, more refined and improved methods must be used.sv
