Phraseology, as a fundamental element of the communicative competence, must be considered when designing manuals for learning Spanish. The purpose of this work is to determine, through a quantitative and a qualitative analysis of two B1 level manuals in Sweden, what type of phraseological units is most common, what terminology is used to refer to them and how they are presented. Firstly, the quantitative analysis confirms that the most common type of units in these manuals is collocations, followed by adverbial, prepositional and conjunctive phrases and to a lesser extent, conversational routines and proverbs. Second, the quantitative analysis confirms that the terminology used to refer to the phraseological units is unsuitable and imprecise, in most cases there is not a term to refer to them. Finally, the qualitative analysis confirms that the phraseological units are presented in a decontextualized way focused only on receptive skills, with the absence of adequate didactic activities. It is evident that the manuals are designed considering curricula, but curricula present the phraseology in an unclear way and do not offer any guidelines on how to work with the phraseological units in the class. Moreover, it is necessary a homogeneous terminology and that the manuals do not focus only on a certain type of units. This work confirms the precarious position of the phraseology and that it is essential to review the didactic approaches of the manuals.sv
