MIN KROPP, MITT VAL En kvalitativ studie om kvinnors självbestämmande och upplevelser av abort relaterat till partners och kvinnosjukvården.
Abstract
The aim of this essay was to examine the importance assigned to the partner when
pregnant women are faced with the decision to have an abortion. We also wanted
to examine women’s encounter with the women’s healthcare and what it looks like
during an abortion. The method we used was qualitative interviews to answer our
aim and research questions. We used theories and concepts regarding self
determination, feminist perspectives, coping theory and social support theory to
analyze our results. The conclusions were that women’s self determination was
strong and most women made the choice from their own opinion. Women
experienced different kinds of support and non-support from their partners which
included practical, physical and emotional support or the lack of them. Most of them
requested more emotional support. We found that the relationships got affected by
the way their partners gave support to the women. The women that received good
support got affected in a positive way, or not at all, and the women that didn’t
receive the support they needed got affected in a more negative way with feelings
of disappointment. In the encounter with the women's healthcare were some women
not offered any counselling support, which should be offered by law. Some women
experienced negative treatment from the women’s healthcare and were met with
guilt and some women experienced good support where they got treated with
respect for their choice.
