PLANERINGSPROCESSEN AV SÖDRA STATIONSOMRÅDET OCH BOFILLS BÅGE En studie av egenskaper i 1980-talets bebyggelse

The planning process of Södra stationsområdet and Bofills båge – A study of properties in the buildings of the 1980s

Abstract
This thesis investigates the planning process of Södra stationsområdet and Bofills båge in Stockholm, and then identify and discuss the requested properties in these planning processes. It also investigates the properties that the Stockholm City Museum highlighted in their cultural-historical classification of Bofills båge. Finally, it compares these properties to each other. The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to an increased understanding of the buildings of the 1980s and its planning processes and to put it in a larger context. Södra stationsområdet used to be a railway yard and the 25-hectare area was purchased by the city in 1979 with the purpose to turn it into a residential area. In the beginning of the 1980s the town planners in Stockholm arranged a competition for ideas of how to develop the area. Several of the ideas formed a base on which planning was continued. Fourteen different builders received building rights, one of them was HSB, a cooperative housing organisation. In 1985 HSB held an architectural competition for the plot of land they had been allotted. The Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill won the competition and was employed to design a crescent shaped building. The conclusion shows that it is not the same properties that are sought in the planning processes that were later highlighted by the city museum. While the early planning process mainly focused on social and economical properties the museum only mentioned cultural-historical properties.
