Description of project
The exhibition was part of the research project Tidernas Göteborg, which was a collaboration between GPS400: Centre for Collaborative Visual Research, HDK-Valand, Gothenburg City Museum, Hasselblad Foundation and Riksarkivet.
It is three years long research project 2019–2022, and the exhibition was made as a result of the research outcome the first year. (The project has been extended because of the pandemic). The aim was to research photography and film in archive, collections and printed matter in order to unfold alternative visual narratives from and about Gothenburg. Questions and methods concerning metadata have been crucial in the research project. The project had a “double gaze” and it was also looking at how film and photography have been used in Gothenburg, and through that local perspective contributed to the history of the lens-based cultures.
The researchers in the projected Tidernas Göteborg were the major contributors to the content of the exhibition ant took part of the general outline of the structure and themes, but it was curated by inhouse staff at the Gothenburg City Museum.
