Nya Hovås - reflektion, Arkitektur och design med människan i centrum

Abstract
This study focuses on the expression good design by Don Norman and genius loci by Christian Norberg-Schulz. Design is our everyday reality with a far deeper impact on our lives than we might understand. This study focuses on urban design and planning. Design is a solution, calculated and thought through based on human need. What about architecture? Is Architecture regarded as art? The study looked at Nya Hovås and Uggleberget, a newbuild suburb south of Gothenburg, Sweden. The theory is Christian Norberg-Schulz´s ”Theory of the Place”, the method is ”good design” by Norman. The study will show that despite their different approach to urban design and planning, their conclusion about human reactions to functionality, orientation, identification and wellbeing leads to the same result. You have to begin with the needs of the human beings and how they are in the world before you design.
