”JAG VISSTE INTE BÄTTRE OCH INGEN ANNAN VISSTE JU BÄTTRE HELLER” En kvalitativ fokusgruppsstudie om våld i ungas nära relationer
Abstract
The primary aim of this study was to explore young people’s perspective on and
constructions of intimate partner violence including risks and protective factors. A
qualitative method was used, and the empirical material was gathered via focus
group interviews. In total eight people between the age of 21-24 years old
participated and the empirical material from the interviews were analyzed by
using thematic analysis. The study’s theoretical framework constituted of
constructivism and theories related to power together with theories regarding
definitions of violence and its psychological effects on the victim of intimate
partner violence. The findings show that young people’s definitions of violence
varies and the violence that is non-physical is considered a grey area. The findings
also show that young people rely on their peer group for support and advice about
healthy relationships rather than turning to adults or authorities. Hence, intimate
partner violence among young people is therefore an important area for social
work to focus on. By improving the knowledge regarding the phenomenon, better
help can be created for those in need - both the victim and the perpetrator.
