Sitt inte för nära skärmen! En studie om elevers relation till den analoga och digitala läsningen
Don’t sit too close to the screen! - A study of students' relationship to analog and digital reading.
Abstract
This study examines digital and analog reading in relation to comprehension and the ability to remember what is read. To achieve the purpose of the study, the following two questions are addressed:1. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the different reading methods in terms of comprehension and is there a tendency for any method to have an advantage? 2. What are the students' preferences regarding digital and analog reading and why? Do students' preferences affect how they perform? To be able to answer these questions, a quantative method with a qualitative element is used. The method of testing consists of letting the students read an informative text both digitally and analogously and answering a survey. The results of the study demonstrate that the digital readers outperformed the analog readers. The study also indicates that both digital and analog readers performed well on questions that require specific information. However, the digital readers outperformed the analog readers on questions that demand deeper understanding. Regarding reading preferences, the students had mixed preferences. The results concerning if the preferences have affected their performance is not significant.
