This essay will investigate the opportunities and risks that come when moving museum collections to new buildings. It will look into if preventive conservation like integrated pest management and riskzones can facilitate the process and what kind of pest control methods that can be used. There are many different pests that can affect a museum but this essay will focus on insects. Insects are drawn to organic material and can therefore be a threat to the collections. The methods used today involve control of pests using either cold or heat. Before these methods were used the objects or collections were often treated with pesticides. This led to that the objects became toxic and are therefore hard to handle today. In order to understand how museums work with these questions in a moving project, interviews were conducted. The criteria for the chosen museums was that they had worked with pests and a relocation project before or are planning one. The interviews mostly confirmed what could be read in the literature but some things had either not been written about or did not work with realistic resources in the form of time, money, personnel and competence. Most of the methods that the museums used were based on what the literature suggested but were developed and customised to match the museums.en_US
