Globally, women are underrepresented in national parliaments, as only 26,5 % of political mandates worldwide are held by women. In developing countries, challenges persist with the gender gap in education, as girls face obstacles to completing their primary school education. In this study, the relationship between the proportion of women represented in national parliaments in Sub-Saharan Africa and the extent to which girls complete their primary education in this region is examined. The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the correlation between women’s representation in politics and the prioritization of political issues that are characterized as typical female preferences. Girls’ education is identified as an example of a political issue that concerns women’s interests. The analysis is conducted through a statistical regression, which includes variables that control for poverty, democracy and corruption. The results do not indicate a significant correlation between the share of women represented in parliaments and the average schooling years of girls. Further research could potentially focus on examining how women’s political preferences differ between countries and the extent to which women have the opportunity to influence political decisions.en
