Based on a knowledge overview of gender equality and social sustainability the use of gender equality in social impact assessments was studied in this report. The study also looked at whether and, in this case, how the planner's gender affected the work and results of social impact assessments. Furthermore, the study aimed to investigate the reasons why gender equality is included or not included in the impact assessments. Textual analysis of selected social impact assessments and semi-structured interviews with planners were conducted to ascertain a result. The results showed major shortcomings in how gender equality is payed attention to. There were interest among planners to include gender equality, but the final result does not show this to the extent that would be needed for equality in planning.
