Visualisering En aktörsstudie för Business Region Göteborg
Sammanfattning
This thesis aims to map out and analyze the visualization industry in the Gothenburg region. The two main questions for the thesis were to examine whether clusters are a productive and fruitful collaboration manner for the visualization industry and whether the value chain is an appropriate tool to use when studying clusters. This thesis is mainly
directed to people involved in a new venture which aims to form a visualization cluster in the Gothenburg region. Secondarily this thesis is aimed to people who use visualization in their everyday work and want to learn more about how visualization can be used within their organizations to create new value?
To conduct this study we interviewed and interacted with people involved in the visualization industry in the Gothenburg region. We studied what the industry delivered and which different research areas there were. We also collected data from different nonprofit
organizations involved with visualization. These respondents were chosen because of their extensive knowledge about how visualization can be used to create value within organizations. Moreover, these respondents were also chosen because of their different views on what visualization is and how it will be used in the future.
We found that visualization is used in the production industry, construction industry and within the health sector. We found that visualization is used within these industries for educational- design-, development-, planning-, and marketing reasons. We also concluded that cluster could be used as a productive way to collaborate within the visualization industry. Finally, we concluded that the value chain is not the best method to describe collaboration and value within a cluster, subsequently we suggest that the more adaptable value constellation model should be used instead.
