Sammanfattning
The music-industry today is facing the challenge to introduce e-Business
solutions for online-distribution of music. This is necessary to meet the
competition from free services like Napster. We found this area very
interesting since we are very interested in music and also have significant
experience in swedish students attitudes towards online music-piracy. Our
main goal was through the use of the science of informatics identify factors
that could be of importance for the music-industry to achive a successful e-
Business. To achieve this, explicit theories found in litterature have been
examined. Furthermore we interviewed experts in several relevant areas.
We also conducted a survey as well as interviews among potential
customers to get their views.
We identified a number of success factors related both to the buyer and to
the seller. We saw few problems in the technology- and design-related
aspects of constructing an e-Business solution for online music. However,
we found that the main problems were peoples attitudes towards online
music-piracy and that the buyers and the sellers have different views on the
price issue. Some kind of understanding of eachothers needs must be
reached before a successful e-Business solution can be launched.
We feel that representatives from the music industry can gain from reading
this report. Since there are aspects in the report unique to the music
industry, some developers of e-Business soulutions may also gain from
reading this report.
