Bris - ett golv

Abstract
The aim with the project was to portray something to step on. Its purpose has been to experiment and explore the interaction between pattern, structure, material and colour for something to be applied on a floor. Focus has been on esthetic expression and not the creation of some¬thing for a specific environment or audience. My goal was also that this project would illustrate the importance of the floor to create a certain atmosphere in a room. The project was divided into three phases. The first one was the experimenting and exploring phase, where the goal was to find an expression. It was a lot about finding a good meeting between simple geometric figures and more playful, unstructured forms. During the second phase it was decided that there would be a floor with a theme based upon the sea and different sea weather conditions. From this theme three patterns were created: Bris, Storm and Sol. Due to time resctrictions only Bris was further developed into a prototype and environment visualization. The Bris pattern initially consisted of three components, which later were rationalized down to one component. The third phase focused on creating a floor prototype and then test it in different environments. Diff-erent colors were tested on pattern components to find reactions depending on the blackness and the brightness. After placing the prototype in different spatial environments, a conclusion was drawn that the floor would be suitable both for private as well as public environments.
