Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine effects of hearing aid use and to do a judgment of the provement. The investigation was a pilot study and may be used in the clinic.

The international form “International Outcome Inventory for Hearing Aids” (IOI-HA) was used for data collection. Four questions were chosen from the form. These questions were answered by hearing aid users and their significant others. Three of the questions were only answered by the hearing impaired. The hearing aid users felt that the hearing aid helped them to understand a lot.

Thirty persons and their significant others participated in this study. Hearing aid subjects were required to be using the first hearing aids of their lives. The questions were about hearing aid use, satisfaction, hearing difficulties and quality of life after the hearing aid fitting. The results were good.

The use of these four questions from IOI-HA can be a method to examine the effects of hearing aid use on a patient and significant others. It can also be a method for audiological rehabilitation. The results can be used when the audiologist develops an individual treatment plan.
