Bilder av Bellevue - Föreställningar kring ett industriområde
Images on Bellevue- ideas about an industrial area
Abstract
This bachelor essay aims to illuminate different images and ideas about Bellevue industrial area.
The area is situated in a district in Gothenburg, called Gamlestaden, where Bellevue industrial
area is a former industrial area, today mostly used by minor occupations. The district is facing a
major transformation, based on a detailed master plan. One aim is to create a district with mixed
functions; like residences, businesses, offices, services and cultural activities all together. This
essay is based mainly from a user perspective, but it also has the perspective from the ideas and
visions by the City Planning Office.
The material is mainly based on interviews with seven informants, representing different kinds of
occupations in the area. One interview is also made with a city planner. The material is analysed
on the basis of the academic Henri Lefebvre and Michel Foucault, who both discussed social life
in relation to a spatial context. This is useful form my essay, when it partially aims to look into
different ideas about the physical environment, where buildings are included, in relation to social
dimensions. My starting point in this essay, is the importance of a corner stone in city planning,
which has a social perspective, a human perspective, and that the city should be a place for
everyone.
How the area will develop is still not clear, what is clear though, is that the area is under big
change. The informant’s hopes to be able to operate in the future area, fits well with the plans by
the City Planning Office, have about creating a mixed function district. So with good conditions
the area has a good chance to develop into something that will be favourable for all parties
involved.
