"Den typ; BOOP – BORTA, liksom!” en studie av åtta tioåringars upplevelser av litteratur, film och sociala medier
Abstract
The Syllabus for Swedish Language and Literature for Elementary School includes literature
and multimodal texts, such as web texts. From a Swedish educational perspective, it is
important to consider the students' experiences. This study examines a couple of ten year olds
experiences of literature, film, and social media. It also examines how these medias are used
in School according to the pupils. The theoretical basis for this research is based on
hermeneutic phenomenology and the concept of life-worlds. Qualitative interviews with eight
pupils, from two classes at two different schools, was conducted and analyzed. A survey
about pupils' media was also conducted.
The results of the survey were compared with larger surveys of media use and the
results were similar. It appears that pupils spend a lot of time using computers and cellphones,
and a lot of them are active on social media. They have a positive attitude to film, computers
and cellphones. Attitudes to reading is less positive.
The interviewed pupils read regularly and entusiastically describes how they get
involved with stories in literature and in film. The use of literature and multimodal texts
enhances their identity development. Film strengthens the feeling of belonging in a group.
Social media is popular and many of them are active on a daily basis.
The Pupils are positive to work with film and literature at school. There is a great
potential for teachers to develop the pedagogy about reading and mulitmodal texts since they
have a critical function in students' life worlds.
