The small scale textile reuse market - A study on craft knowledge, attitudes and objects circulating
Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify the types of operators that exist within the local textile reuse market. The small scale textile reuse market in Gothenburg has been the focus. The activities that exist within this market have been mapped based on the tasks of textile reuse they work with.
Further, the study examines four businesses within the market through in-depth interviews. The interviews aim to explore the craft and material knowledge of the individuals working with textile reuse. The interviews also examine how the business works with reuse through how they acquire, select and process the items they handle. Through the interviews is also studied the attitudes towards textile reuse, particularly with respect to how they relate to the fact that the objects has a story.
The overall aim is to highlight the relationships between craft and material knowledge, attitudes and analytical concepts within the field. This paper is written within the framework of the research project Re:Heritage.
