Tappade maskor En metodutveckling för retuschering och komplettering av stickade material
Dropped loops A method developement for retouch and compensation for loss on knitted materials
Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to develop methods appropriate for retouching of
knitted materials. The methods are developed with ethical and aestetic criterias in
mind using user-friendly methods such as knitting, embroidery and the use of
watercolour. The method development resulted in five samples that is discribed
individually showing every step of the working process. The samples are
discussed and eveluated by a reference group of five people working in the
conservation or museum field. These people evaluated each sample individually
using predetermined questions which deals with ethical, aestetic aspects and the
use of the techniques in a exhibition context. The method development of these
five samples did not result in a complete method or technique. However several
alternatives can be formed and adapted to fit a specifik object and occasion. All
the samples complies with ICOMs ethical guidelines concerning reversibility and
the possibility to identify a conservation treatment.
