Bang! Let's smash the patriarchy Hur svenska serietecknare konstruerar och förhandlar feministiska diskurser

Abstract
This essay analyzes three Swedish cartoon artists: Elias Ericson, Lisa Ewald and Amanda Casanellas. The aim is to examine how they construct feminist strategies through their work and how they convey this visually. The issue of whether these Swedish cartoons can be seen as a part of a bigger political platform is central. Through semiotics and post-colonial and queer feminist theory, some answers to these questions are searched for. The result shows that all three of the artists can be seen in a bigger activist context, even if they work in and through different platforms. Casanellas questions the racism in Sweden and how we should prevent it. Ericson explores the everyday life and difficulties of a transgender person, while Ewald challenges the art-historical idea of the male genius. The common factor is their will to create resistance through the work of art that is comics.
