ATT GÖRA EN FIN DAM HETERONORMEN I EN FÖRVANDLINGSKOMEDI

Sammanfattning
Analysis of the piece Pygmalion in set at the Gothenburg City Theatre from a gender perspective with the purpose to investigate which genders that are presented and how the piece relates to the heterosexual norm. The method consists in the analysis and discussion of how the pieces portrays females and males (with focus on feminine and masculine coded expression and presentation of desire) and what consequences it brings. This based on various method books of norm-breaking design work for Aesthetic staff, and a theory based on Judith Butler's research. Primary material consists in a piece analysis of Pygmalion, from a spectator's perspective. Main Results: The designing is consciously working with a set of norm-breaking gender expression, particularly female genders. The set translates socially critical views against patriarchal hierarchies. It exposes the normative genders as socially constructed. However, the piece misses norm-breaking male genders among subjects portrayed. It is also founded on a heteronormative understanding of gender, detecting two key counterparties in a heterosexual female and male, which in their natural state desire each other. The heteronorm remains unproblematically portrayed despite multifaceted gender expression and criticism of gender-oriented power hierarchy.
