LUCIA DE B

Summary
International feature film – Lucia de B (Accused) One of nine films still on the shortlist for Oscar.
Supported by
Sweden: SFI/Swedish Film Institute, SVT/Swedish Television
Description of project
Concerning ”LUCIA DE B” My artistic contribution to this film as a co-producer has been to follow closely the development of this project and take part in artistic decisions during the way. To find and cast what artistic contribution the Swedish part could consist of. The composer Adam Nordén was chosen to compose the original score and to do the recordings in Sweden. The Swedish actress Amanda Ooms plays Lucia de B’s roommate in the prison. I got the Swedish Film institute and Swedish Television (SVT) on board as financiers and co-operators. I met the Dutch producer Reinier Selen in 2006 and as we found a common interest in films with social and political foundation, we started a professional collaboration exchanging ideas starting already in the development phase. In 2012 Reinier contacted me with the first idea to ”Lucia de B”. The background was that a nurse at a Dutch hospital had been wrongly accused for murdering babies when working with early born. It’s the true story of Lucia de Berk, who was wrongly imprisoned for six years. A private hospitals eagerness to find a scape goat within the staff instead of getting questions about their routines together with a media that named her ”the Angel of death” she was convicted with out any evidence. This story reveals how fragile and unequal our modern society is and how a ”witch hunt” is as likely to happen nowadays as well. To be the co-producer of this film fits well in my filmography of produced movies as it explores the themes that interest me as a producer, filmmaker and artist. Woman, Class, inequality, media. This drama is based on the true story of Lucia de Berk, who was wrongly imprisoned for six years.
