Monument: Vertical vs. Horizontal – Current Score

Summary
Monument - Vertical vs. Horizontal; Current Score is the second in a new series of performance lectures aiming to produce new critical perspectives and models of resistance in matters of economy, history writing and gender. Through the associative linking of different contemporary and historical elements that may and may not relate to the matter at hand, the performance here becomes a method of simultaneously producing and presenting knowledge.
Description of project
The Monument-lecture departs from the question of what monuments that are created by contemporary capitalism. Investigating the role of the cowboy in the Western Epic, the competition for the erection of the worlds tallest building, and the crucial activity of decapitating statues of men on horseback to maintain a clear view of the state of affairs, this lecture attempts to summarize the current score in the feud between the vertical and the horizontal. Furthermore, it is an appeal in favour of the commemoration of other stories, perspectives and events than those promoted by the market. Oscillating between story telling and scientific lecture, between the fictious and the factual, this half hour long performance attempts to create a conceptual space for the conception of new ways of thinking and acting. 13FESTIVALEN is a new event established by Galleri Konstepidemin and intended to re-occur on an annual basis, providing a platform for contemporary performance in Gothenburg. This first edition of the festival continued for two full days, featuring an array of diverse performative projects.
