Det politiska uppfostrandet. En studie av hur det obligatoriska teaterbesöket i utbildningssyfte påverkar gymnasieelevens demokratiska världsbild - utifrån ett intersektionellt perspektiv

Political education. An intersectional study of how a theatre performance, as an obligatory part of education, can affect high school students' views on equality and human rights

Abstract
The aim of my essay is to find out if political theatre in some way affects the opinions and values of high school students. I therefore conducted a public survey at Hagateatern in Göteborg during Autumn 2014, aimed at the political performance ‘… men sen då?’, performed by the Teater Kurage ensemble. The survey was conduced in three steps; the first and second steps by observing the students’ reactions both during and after the performance, and then during a political seminar with young politicians. The third and final step involved a questionnaire with questions concerning politics and theatre which the students completed. I have applied an intersectional perspective as a point of departure/starting point and thus investigated the differences between the students' answers depending on their gender, age and residential area. I wanted to find out to in which way they were affected by these factors. The results of my investigation proved that old habits and structures regarding gender and social classes still persists as a norm. In any case, my results have shown that the students were, in general, affected by the performance at Hagateatern.
