This paper presents a review of current literature regarding the use of English academic vocabulary in relation to the Swedish curriculum. Starting with a historical background to the English for Academic Purposes education and an attempt at defining what academic vocabulary is, the review continues to investigate if there is a need for increased academic vocabulary in Swedish schools and the possible social effects of an education focused towards academic vocabulary. Finally, the paper will discuss EAP vocabulary teaching and a perceived problematic implementation in Swedish upper secondary schools as well as suggest that future research should focus on the needs and problems of Swedish students.sv
