Purpose and questions in matter: The study is carried out on behalf of the human resources section at Skatteverket (The Swedish Tax Agency) local office in Gothenburg. The purpose of the study is to examine the conditions for the gender mainstreaming to be implemented and its ability to affect the imbalance in the amount of women and men employed at the authority. Method and material: I have used semi-structured interviews with eight employees at Skatteverket. The interviews have different positions such as, gender equality-controller at the head office, head of sections, recruiters and a tax administrator. Main results: The main results from the study shows that the conditions for gender mainstreaming to be implemented in the organization is affected by three different levels. Further the results show that there are gendered processes which affect men and women differently. The identified gendered processes also affect the employees perception of the gender mainstreaming. The study also shows that the organization and the recruitment process are seen as gender neutral processes which affects how the informants think of gender mainstreaming in overall and particularly concerning the recruitment process. I have identified practices of resistance and change which points out the possibility for the officials to affect the implementation of gender mainstreaming.sv
