Different worlds – the same planet

Sammanfattning
Exhibition and conference with focus on environmentally inspired documentary photography at the museum of Västerbotten, Umeå
Beskrivning av projektet
I participated with series from my project 424/Hammarkullen, which was published as a book in late 2014, as well as a series from my Surtesjön-images From the museum website: With four photographic swoops in the world - far away and close to home – people's different living conditions and milieux are explored, using nature as a reference point. In humble dialogue with the forests of Norrland, in the pure unproductive land of the Million Homes Programme suburbs, among a threatened nomadic people in a desert that has been affected by climate change, and among exploited coal workers in India. The interplay with nature plays an essential role for the way our lives are formed and our identity - no matter where we live in the world. Undulating landscape, lush plants and close-ups of animals can all be associated with traditional nature photography. This is not exactly the case with this exhibition. Hendrik Zeitler • 424 – Hammarkullen, Angered Hammarkullen is one of those suburb names that induce a one-sided picture of what a "Million Homes Programme" suburb is. But when the forest, paths, trees and magpie nests are included, other peep-holes open up. I see a large, benevolent, green hand cradling little Hammarkullen like a child.
