dc.description.abstract | Purpose - The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and describe what corporate challenges
organizations and HR functions experience in a global era. Furthermore the thesis covers
some aspects of how these challenges are expressed in different contexts.

where we have conducted interviews with highly ranked executives from several human
resource departments. The objective of this thesis is to improve existing empirical data by
providing greater understanding of how globalization influence corporations in a local and a
global context.
Findings - Organizations that function in a local and global context face a vast amount of
shared corporate challenges that are related to globalization. Central common challenges are
supply of competence, management of digitalization, employer branding and increased
demands of corporate competitiveness. Some challenges are more significant for a certain

sector does. However, both sectors do benefit from the labor migration. Challenges unique to
private sector relates to managing global work practices. The findings of this thesis shows that
the challenges different organizations face relates to globalization and are in many ways
shared.

Furthermore results reveal that HR is an essential resource for the business concerning
meeting these challenges.
