"Jag är fan skitbra på att instagramstalka". Instagram som verktyg för övervakning av andra och sig själv, ur ett användarperspektiv.

Abstract
This essay examines the process of surveillance by users of the social media Instagram. By using theories of surveillance together with theories of self presentation it concludes that there is a connection between surveillance and identity for users on Instagram. Users monitor other users simultaneously and reciprocally. By doing so they gather information that help them prepare for future meetings and to categorize people in their world. Users consume other users profiles, their self-presentation. On Instagram the profile function as a public identity and all the user do on the service is part of the public self. This public self effects the users offline life in that it defines the person offline as well. People surveil other people online to see if they would get along.
