Beskrivning av projektet
Krabstadt is a feminist animation project, situated in the overlap between animation and the fine arts. The main strains of the project deal with issues such as xenophobia, tolerance, feminism, unemployment, and Arbeitsmarktpolitik from a European perspective.
Krabstadt is a place for architectonic and social experiments to establish a new geographic focus and a new comic agenda. It satirizes aspects of what it can mean to be “unwanted” and who and what is considered unwanted / other in Europe and Sweden. From an absurd and comic angle Krabstadt looks at exotification, racism, idea of our societies as completely secular in order to offer comic relief in socially turbulent times. The project avoids moralism but instead satirizes bureaucratization of modern life, post-social democratic confusion, current political events and small town pettiness while focusing on funny weird yet lovable characters.
The project explores the funny and the surreal inherent in the medium of animation in order to question norms, social codes and values. The project examines and reformulates how community is represented and how a new geographic and cultural location influences the national, ethnic and sexual self-definition.
The series will deal with interrelated issues such as xenophobia, tolerance, integration, feminism, sex, unemployment and Arbeitsmarktpolitik from a Swedish and European perspective. These issues will be reflected through the various conflicts the characters go through. Through the characters and their conflicts, we get to know the world of Krabstadt.
Krabstadt reflects current topics and events by using the anarchic potential of humor to punctuate official and hierarchical discourse. By using a broad spectrum of references from low to high culture within music, architecture, utopian social projects, mass-media and politics, Krabstadt uses the potential of animated film to be subversive, innovative and complex.
