Likvärdighet på den svenska gymnasieskolan - en vacker tanke. Den goda eller onda betygsspiralen

Abstract
Title: Equity at the Swedish upper secondary school - a beautiful thought The good or evil grade spiral Author: Anders Svensson Term / year: VT 2017 Supervisor: Ilona Rinne Course: LKXA1G V17 Examiner: Christian Bennet Code: VT17-2930-038-LGXA1G Language: Swedish Keywords. Departure ratings, qualifications, equivalence, free school selection, levels of motivation This study investigates how the average grade value of grade 9 as a class when starting upper secondary school affects the average grade of upper secondary school grade for the same class. The study encompasses a quantitative part where data from Skolverkets database "SIRIS" has been analyzed and a qualitative part where a two-teacher research interview has been conducted. The question of this study is: How is equality affected, given the possibility of a good graduation grade in Swedish school, given the composition of classes, taking into account the class average grade from year 9? The result shows that the Swedish school is not equivalent to the fact that the free choice of school leads to differences in the composition of classes in the different schools due to different high admission points, the merit value from grade 9. The students attending a school with high average merit values from year 9 are favored by motivated study colleagues, motivated / positive teachers, higher attendance on lessons, more chances to showcase their skills, more and more favorable assessment situations. These favorable conditions result in these students having an advantage in the grading of the graduate grade from the upper secondary school. As these grades play a decisive role for the pupil's future opportunities in Swedish society, it is stated that - "The Swedish upper secondary school is not equivalent"
