Att välja rätt från början - Hur väljer start-up företag utländska leverantörer i samband med det första produktionsbeslutet?

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to create a deeper understanding of start-up corporations and how they choose suppliers outside of Sweden in connection to the first choice of production. An additional purpose is to contribute to a deeper understanding of this subject by identifying the various possibilities and obstacles that exist regarding this choice in connection to the founding of a corporation. The essay also aims to create a greater understanding of whether it is possible for a start-up corporation to take social and environmental aspects into account when making the first production decisions. Theory: The theoretical framework we chose to apply on the appraisal of the research includes the primary sources that we believe are the most relevant in order to define the main findings of the paper. The theories that we chose to include in this paper are choice of supplier, supply chain management, strategic choices due to external pressure and stakeholder theory. Methodology: The data was collected through a qualitative method consisting of semi structured interviews with four start-up corporations that are established in Gothenburg and Stockholm. The interviews consisted of both a physical meeting with the start-up corporation established in Gothenburg and telephone meetings with the start-up corporations established in Stockholm. Conclusions: The main conclusion of this thesis is that start-up corporations choose their supplier primarily based on costs. In addition, material issues such as what quality the contractor can offer the company is a major underlying factor to the choice of contractor. When it comes to the possibilities and opportunities that exist for start-up companies regarding taking social and environmental aspects into account in the first production choice, it results in different opinions. This is primarily because of the result of the founder's own will in taking these aspects into account.
