The purpose of this paper is to analyse and discuss three historical exhibitions from the Museum of Gothenburg on how women and men are represented. A comparative analysis method was used together with a gender perspective theory. An overview of other research about exhibitions were done to get a bigger picture of the subject at hand. A detailed description of the three exhibitions were done by participatory observations and many similarities and differences were found. An example is that men usually were found together with weapons, war, soldiers, power, politics, and trading. The women on the other hand were found together with themes such as textile working, clothing, jewellery, children, and the housework. Conclusions were drawn, that one of the possible reasons to the question of why, is that the research conducted today is more focused on the history of men rather than the history of women, even if some political decisions have been made to change this in the more newly made exhibitions in museums.sv
