Wooden joints – a study of different mediums for craft instructions

Sammanfattning
As a craftperson you will become exposed to a wide range of plans explaining how to perform the act of making wooden joints, the educational level of these plans differs widely. In some cases, you will have descriptive plans other times simple sketches and sometimes maybe advanced software to work from, how you interpret these plans may vary from different craftpersons due too different experience, age, skill etc. All these mediums to visualize plans have one thing in common that they always have their own pros and cons. The aim of this case study is to survey and analyze the different media that wooden joints is presented in, I will also explain how the media is constructed. Therefore, I present four different wooden joints in four different media such as physical models in scale 1:2, orthographic- and isometric plans and interactive 3D-animations witch all have their own pros and cons. I will discuss and analyze these mediums by produce them, compare them and make interviews with a focus group with my media as a basis. The results have showed that interactive 3D-models is a good way to visualize wooden joints but needs more development to become a powerful tool as a form of a plan. Furthermore, I have found out that a mixture of media is a good thing to apply to plans as long they have a good description.
