Man blir kvinna - Om barnuppfostran och genusdiskurser i teori och praktik

Abstract
In this thesis the purpose is to investigate how girls have been raised in three generations, from the 1950’s to the 2010’s in a rural environment, with the 1980’s as our main focus. Through interviews with mothers and daughters, we have sought to discover the discoursive norms that are at play in the upbringing and parenting of girls. We are interested in how girls are shaped into their gender roles, by their environment, family history, class and education, and how they see their own parenting of their daughters. We have also read parenting literature to find the main discourses in upbringing over time. We link the ideas of parenting to the gender norms and state a correlation between authorative upbringing – essential gender, and free upbringing – constructive gender. We use intersectional analysis to see how these discursive constructions create possible positions of womanhood for our informants.
