LA LOCURA TRADUCIDA. ENRICO IV /ENRIQUE IV DE PIRANDELLO
Abstract
The Spanish and Italian languages have a wide history and culture in common that at times seems to be easier to translate from one language to another. This similarity that also includes lexicon and certain grammatical forms may at times confuse, especially when it comes to transmitting emotional and / or mental states.
The purpose of this paper is to study how is translated the madness in the plays Enrico IV (1922) by Pirandello (1867-1936) in his Spanish translation by Velloso (1952). In the first part of this paper will explain about literature translation in theatrical texts. Then we describe the different translation strategies provided by the main theoreticians in this topic like Nida, Taber, Hurtado Albir, Vinay, Darbelnet, Bassnett, among others. Later, we select some expressions related to madness in the plays Enrico IV to compare with the Spanish translation. Finally, we try to identify which strategies have been used by the translator to express madness in the target language.
