Sammanfattning
Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate prevailing attitudes within the field that spans integrity and monitoring in its various forms. This is to create an understanding of how facial recognition's perceived advantages and disadvantages relate in different contexts. Methodology: The authors of this bachelor thesis have conducted a quantitative study based on a positivistic approach constructivist stance and a deductive approach. The empirical material obtained through a survey, together with theories, forms the basis for the study analyzes and conclusions Theoretical perspective: In the study, the empiricism has been compared to Jeremy Bentham's metaphor panopticon and Michel Foucault's theory of disciplinary power. Through a deductive method, these theories have been used to create a picture of how respondents relate to facial recognition in different contexts. Empirical foundation: The empirical material from which the analysis is made is obtained from a survey of 9 hypothetical face recognition scenarios answered by 1305 respondents. Conclusions: The collected empirical material shows us that the respondents generally have a negative attitude towards the use of facial recognition when it comes to social media and social control. Respondents tend to be more positive about crime prevention and infection prevention. Further the empirical material shows that regardless of the intention of facial recognitions uses, the respondents' experience is that personal privacy is greatly affected.
