Intra-Action – Entanglements Within and Beyond Environmental Photography
Abstract
This essay is an attempt to approach the genre of both landscape and environmental photography, to turn
them inside-out, to dissect and to deconstruct them through ecology, ecofeminism, feminist posthumanism and critical theory regarding the photographic medium. Throughout the essay I will focus on several artists and bodies of works that fall into this broad category of landscape and environmental photography. Throughout the essay we will also visit my own artistic process. The idea is to approach these practices through the theories mentioned above and to reconstruct the ways to approach a landscape, to shift agency and to question the master narrative, which I will look into further on. My starting point is my research question and I will first briefly look into representation within photography and from there move over to artistic practices and throughout the essay implement the different theories mentioned above to contribute to my thesis. I am not sure if I will get any answers to my questions, but I assure you that we will move in some direction through this text and in the end we might have more questions that will lead us further down the path.
