Management of Outstanding Universal Values in Sweden
Abstract
This master thesis examines managements plans for 11 world heritage sites and how the outstanding
universal values are handled in the plans. The problem is to succeed to preserve these values and also
a challenge. In the thesis different angles are analysed to show how outstanding universal values are
significant, what role they have in the tourism industry and in sustainable development. The
management plans count as case studies for every each of the world heritage site. The used methods
are literature studies, text analysis and comparation of the management plans. The source material is
collected of published management plans which were issued before the Corona pandemic. Every
chosen management plan is divided in the examination part in five different subheadings to make an
attempt for an equal analysis and an easy overview. The results show how the different perspectives
are handled of outstanding universal values in the examined management plans. The discussion and
conclusion part describe if the term outstanding universal value are logical, how the decision-making
works in the management plans, how the collaborations identifies between cultural heritage and
sustainable development, how the concept of sustainable tourism is handled in the chosen
management plans of the studies. At last, the thesis discusses if the management plans have control
and long-term use or if they have any lack of knowledge.
