Utformningen av svallskift i skiftesverk - en jämförelse mellan tolv byggnader i Skaraborg
Svallskift in post- and plankconstruction – a comparison of twelve buildings in Skaraborg
Sammanfattning
Post- and plankconstruktion in barns was common to see in the South and- southwest parts of
Sweden during the 1700-1800. During the land reforms in the villages, in the 1700- 1800
many of these barns were demolished and replaced by barns with newer construction
methods. This study focus on one detail on the post- and plankconstruction that was common
in some parts of Sweden, especially Västergötland. It is a leaning plank in the bottom of the
plankwall that protects the sill plate from getting wet, called “svallskift”. They are disegned
differently. The study examine twelve buildings with svallskift. The study's results shows that
there are mainly two different designs that has been used. One where the heart side is turned
out in the wall and one where the heartside is turned in towards the wall. These two forms are
described in older literature but there is no information there in which way the heartside is
turned.
